Like everyone else, I was pleased that the Farmington City Council and Planning Commission did not approve the UDOT application to amend the Master Transportation Plan to accommodate a highway through our city. However, the comments of the UDOT representatives made it clear that we must be stay vigilant and involved.
We are all aware there are other issues that must be decided that will drastically impact our city and way of life in the next 5 to 10 years. As long as there is property left to build and develop , there will be people who will try to convince us that they know what is best for our future. We, as Farmington citizens, should be the decision makers for our future.
Now, more than ever, we should focus on what our priorities are and NEVER COMPROMISE when it comes to deciding what is best for our families.
Remember, when you vote on November 6, that we must continue to stay involved and active. Please elect people who will represent your priorities and will not be afraid to stand up to special interests or government entities and say "NO" if it does not benefit Farmington. Careful, thoughtful, unhurried planning will be the key to our future.
Along with the growth, comes necessary expansion of fire and police services that are adequate. More people means more traffic on our streets that must be maintained. We will have to reach a balance of development and open space. Our citizens value parks and trails and we will need to find the funding for this. We will welcome commercial development in the right place with the right look to insure that we don't have empty stores and strip malls dotting our beautiful city. During this period of massive tax increases coming from all directions, the City Council needs to carefully weigh our future financial obligations and learn to do what we all do in times of hardship and increased financial burdens-tighten our belts and concentrate on our needs and not necessarily our wants.
VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6!!!!!TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS-!!!!!NO COMPROMISE!!!!
