Farmington Citizens

Thank You to All!

Thank you to all of you who spent so much time and effort in supporting candidates for Farmington City Council. Congratulations to Cory Ritz! Also, Carmen and Joel ran very good campaigns and deserve our appreciation for all of their efforts.

Our work as citizens is not completed. We need to stay active to ensure our voices are heard. Our efforts were a major contributing factor to denying UDOT's request to divide our city with another freeway. This issue is not over. I am confident that it will surface again.

Development issues will continue and will have a major impact on our city for many years to come. With Cory's election to City Council there should be two seats available on the Planning Commission. The Mayor has requested that individuals interested in applying for these appointed positions should notify him in writing. Let's get someone to step up and volunteer to fill at least one of these important positions.

Our efforts also resulted in one of the current city council members stating that a park in west Farmington is one of his top priorities. Let's remind him to keep his promises.

Once again, thanks to all who gave of their time, energy, and resources.

Your Help is Needed - Please Reply

Thank you everyone who attended the Farmington Citizens planning meeting last Thursday night. The discussion was lively and entertaining. We were able to zero in on a plan for the Farmington Citizens Committee to help Joel, Cory, and Carmen get elected on November 6th. The plan involves signs, flyers, hitting the streets, and a good ol' fashioned "meet the candidates" party.

Now that a plan is in place a critical piece of the pie is missing, money. This community effort needs a contribution from you. Here is how you can donate. Just reply to this message with your information:

1) Your Name
2) Address
3) Phone number

Someone will come by to pick up your donation. Checks can be made out to "Farmington Citizens". Cash donations can be made as well.

The results of the primary election made it real that Joel, Cory, and Carmen can be elected to the City Council. There is just 4 weeks left until the General Election. The outcome of this election will materially shape our community. The newly elected City Council will decide major Farmington issues. The majority of these issues will be focused west of I-15.

Many of you have expressed a desire to help in this community effort even though you could not attend citizen meetings. Now is the time to help.

Reply to this message. Let's get Joel, Cory, and Carmen elected.

Planning Commission Public Hearing This Thursday

Greetings from the Farmington Citizens Committee (farmingtoncitizens.org),

This is a friendly reminder to attend the Planning Commission public hearing this Thursday August 9th 7:00PM at the Community Center on 120 S. Main. This hearing is for the Planning Commission to consider UDOT's application to amend Farmington's transportation master plan for Option #3 of the North Legacy to Legacy Connector Corridor Preservation Study.

Even though this meeting is a Planning Commission meeting the City Council and the Mayor will be in attendance. There is a very good possibility that many State Legislators, many UDOT representatives, County Commissioners, engineers, and media will be there as well.

Everyone is entitled to 3 minutes of speaking time. Everyone should speak even if the same point has already been made by someone else. UDOT likes to play a numbers game with statistics. UDOT compiles statistics from meeting like these to determine how well their proposals are accepted. The more that speak and the more that speak against the proposal the better. Get your voice heard by speaking.

If you cannot attend the meeting or don't want to speak then please still make the effort to get your opinion heard. Here are your options:

  • Have someone speak on your behalf. This gives the spokesperson for 2 or more people 5 minutes of speaking time.
  • Drop a letter by the City Offices before 12:00PM. The address is 130 N Main, Farmington, Utah 84025
  • Submit your comments by way of the Farmington City website. Here is the link to Farmington City's website contact form.
If you need more detailed information about the Connector issue please visit the "Connector Resource Guide" on our website farmingtoncitizens.org. Here is a direct link to the page: "UDOT North Legacy to Legacy Parkway Connector Resource Guide"

Meeting Tonight 8:00PM

This is a friendly reminder that tonight (August 2nd) is the Farmington Citizens committee meeting. The meeting will be held in the barn of Bob Wilkes (1108 South 650 West) at 8:00PM. Tonight we will be:

  • Getting reports on fund raising progress, voter registration progress, and website activity.
  • Hearing from our endorsed candidates for City Council: Joel Cook and Carmen Samuelson (Cory Ritz is out of town).
  • Discussing the August 9th Planning Commission public hearing for UDOT option #3 proposal.
  • Getting the rest of our neighbors registered to vote.
We'll see you there. Oh, and bring a chair and mosquito repellent.

Call for Help to Register Farmington Residents to Vote

Due to the great work of Irene Snow and Tauna Homer it has been discovered many Farmington Utah residents are not registered to vote. The citizens committee has made it a goal to help all eligible Farmington residents who are not registered to vote get registered by July 19th. July 19th is the date of the next citizens committee meeting (check out the meeting time and location on farmingtoncitizens.org). August 10th is the last day people can register to vote by mail and be able to vote in the September 11th municipal primary.

The Davis County Clerks Office will allow books of voter registration forms to be checked out. With these forms we can help our neighbors get registered to vote. Going from neighbor to neighbor to get them registered is a daunting task for a few. We need more help in getting this task done in 1 week. This is a request for help. Please let us know if you can help. Send an email to admin@farmingtoncitizens.org with your contact information and we'll give you instructions on how to help in this coordinated effort.

This effort has been well organized. We just need more hands (and feet).

If you are interested in seeing who had declared to be a Candidate for the Farmington City Council please visit farmingtoncitizens.org. So far as of today 10 people have filed for the 3 available seats, including two incumbents.

We need your help.
